I am so glad i live in Montana, where the largest things we see around us are mountains. Yes, there are billboards here, but its just not gotten nearly as out of control as you describe in the cities. I have never seen a building wrap, that sounds horrific.

The grotesque advertising that has become so prevalent these days is a monoculture in its own right.

And we see the same ads over and over again as we go across this land.

In no small way did advertising play a part in the town-destroying effect of Monoculture. Advertising played had a role in the rise of Sprawl-Mart.

Sometimes, it is OK to hate advertising.

Thanks for this, I also have the same problem that people say to me "it's a free country, people can put billboards up if they want" instead of "it's a free country, nobody has the right to rub propaganda into your retinae every time you open your eyes in a public place."

You should see the building wraps in Las Vegas. The days of push marketing are not as effective as they use to be.

Hmm, nice enough essay, but I'd like the author to link anti-advertising into the diversity of tactics currently being used to resist corporate control. The crux of the question to me isn't "why aren't you working to cure cancer?" It's more like, "why aren't you bum-rushing Haliburton?"
